9:30pm

Heavy rain. It comes quietly and suddenly, big fat drops fall hard onto the parched ground outside. The rain is so heavy it sounds like a waterfall. Our dog sits and watches with a look of worry on his face. It has been so hot these days that I won’t be surprised if he has forgotten what rain is.

The dog has not lived a full year yet, he is still experiencing his first year of life. He will turn one year old on the 30th of this month. He has two black spots right over his eyes that look like eyebrows, it gives him a comical look.

The rain keeps pouring down, sheets of thick angry rain. The monsoon (or to be precise the intermonsoon) is finally here. The air slowly cools down and the smell of rain seeps in through the window. I used to love the rain as a child, but as an adult I am yet to decide if I like it or not.

As I am occupied with my thoughts I realise the rain has finally stopped. It left just as quietly as it arrived. It leaves behind a loud silence, that is only interrupted by rainwater dripping from the roof and surrounding trees. I wonder, when it will rain again?

My dog, Rusky, with his funny short eyebrows and spotted tongue.
